Those are some powerful affirmations by Hype Mom! When Cashy was 5 years old, she wanted this drop in so badly. She kept struggling with needing to stomp the board down to the concrete which would then have her body leaning in with the drop in. So I came up with the ‘Unicorn Stomp’ since her Vans were mini unicorns and it was relatable to the things she really likes. As you can see, I made it seem like that stomp was so powerful that she was going to crack the ground. That was all the encouragement she needed to do this successfully. A vast majority of skateboarding is commitment. If you’re even the slightest bit doubting yourself, just wait. When you’re feeling 100 and confident you can land something that’s where the confidence in committing comes in to play. In the journey of skating, you will run out or tricks or bail on them and immediately know if you just committed you would likely have stuck it. It’s not guaranteed that just by committing you will land it by any means. Although you’re far more likely to stomp it the more you trust commuting to the trick. Luckily for little Cashy here she had me with quick reactions to keep her some taking some gnarly slams but she only needed me a few times and she was dropping in all on her own! Do you remember the first time you dropped in or landed a new trick? If so tell us about it in the comments! Hi, we’re The Rowley’s! We love to travel and ride sideways on boards of all types. We homeschool our daughter Cashy through unique experiences around the world with an emphasis on adventure and fun. Not exactly how we planned to end our season. Both in her trying this massive line of boxes and the hard slam that came with it. Don’t worry it only ended up being a bruised knee and some sore muscles. At the end of every season, our local hill sets up the Box-Of-Death! They put together about 10 boxes and let people try their hand at it. So naturally after our amazing last day riding before we were getting ready to leave Nick sarcastically mentioned to Cash about giving it a go. She took a look at it and said with confidence “I will give it a try!” and try she did. We get that watching her slam hard and cry can stir up mixed emotions, trust me. As her parents it is heartbreaking but as you can see with this and other videos that we have posted I (Whitney) tend to get real quiet and monitor how she is acting while Nick assess her. Of course there will undoubtedly be the haters that tell us to stop filming but honestly we look back at this footage to learn for our own reactions in the future as well as sharing with her doctor. After we checked her out and she said things hurt I then looked at the video on my phone to see exactly how she landed and to pinpoint more of where the injury could be. This also helped distract her a bit from what her dad was doing. Let her relax and feel what her body was telling her. Nick did an outstanding job and once we got home we made sure to have her checked out. Just some bumps and bruises but nothing major. The reason we are sharing this is because it’s okay to show that it’s not always perfect. That there will be hard crashes in this sport and most importantly that crying does not mean you are weak in any way. We asked Cash if she was willing to share this before we even started working on it and she said she wanted to show other kids that it’s okay to fall and to take a break but that it’s important to try new things. Man this little girl is just amazing! #snowboarding #snowboard #snowboardinggirl #parenting #parentingdoneright #parentsoftiktok
Toys teach tricks! 6 years old and Cashy stomped that first try. This is one of the coolest ways we’ve seen snowboarding tricks be taught, especially when it comes to young riders. Being able to spend a day with @Snowboard Trainers he had our little girl doing all kinds of new tricks by the end! Every spring our family has migrated south to @Mammoth Mountain for some warm weather shredding. Mostly because Mammoth has some of the best LTR (Learn To Ride) parks in the world and they hold snow sometimes till mid July. Unfortunately this season we are not making it down that way but this moment with Duncan was too good not to share, plus we added more to this edit that nobody has seen yet! #snowboarding #teaching #toys
Tutu snowboarding jibs over the last 8 years. Looking at this progression on these jibs, it’s no wonder why all these other little girls switched their outfits to rock the tutu while riding after being inspired by Cashy #snowboarding #trendsetter
As her father, it gives me proud tears how sweet our daughter is after seeing me crash so hard snowboarding. She is so genuinely concerned that I’m not hurt but she also does everything she can to cheer me back up. It’s a testament to how Whit and I have raised her to have so much empathy while also knowing that humor and distraction works wonders when someone crashes out hard. It’s a very proud moment for me as much as my almost 40 year old body feels otherwise. In this exact moment. Once I realized my body wasn’t broken or seriously injured and before more pain had yet to set in, I said to myself that I needed to try and finish this run and hit some more features. One side I needed to do that for me to try to redeem myself to myself. The other side I wanted to show my daughter strength. Show her that we all take hard falls in this sport. Some will end your day but some are just tough slams and it’s about getting back up to not let it completely ruin your day. Once I hit those buckets at the end that I promised Cashy I’d hit I knew I was fine-ish. What I really love about this is what I didn’t get to witness with my eyes. We continue down to the lower features and Cashy stomps that last rail and gets so stoked for herself! She didn’t let my fall stop her. She charged on with me. You can hear her doing any and every thing she can to cheer me up and it’s so incredibly beautiful. However she knew without a doubt that the Skittle power, 80% of the time, works every time.
So proud of what went down yesterday! Cashy hasn’t been on her skateboard in a very long time. Like almost 8 months. Not only because of winter but she also fell a couple times that kind of scared her for a bit. I get it, skateboarding hurts A LOT! So for her to hop back on her board, join her friends and do stuff she’s never actually done before was beyond amazing! It’s like that absence from skating actually made her better. Or maybe it was her shred crew (more on this as they all learned to drop in) that had her hyped up. I don’t know what exactly it was but what I do know is I am a super proud dad! Tell us in the comments how you got started with skateboarding! #Skateboarding #skateboardingisfun #skatergirl #skateboardingtutorials #parenting101 #parentinglife #parentingdoneright
When learning to wakeboard there is a bit of a counter intuitiveness that a beginner will have to overcome. See when the boat is pulling you up you naturally want to pop up super fast and immediately stand up. While that works for when you’ve done it a bunch, it actually is the opposite while learning. At the very start you want to let the boat pull you up instead of forcing a fast stand up because typically you will be pulled over the front of your board until you learn to control it by leaning against the force of the boat. Here are the rules we taught our little girl to help her get up her first time. 1st Rule: Arms straight, knees bent 2nd Rule: Let the boat pull you up 3rd Rule: Keep the nose of your board up 4th Rule: Lean back on your back foot 5th Rule: Smile As you can see in this video, Nick is sitting on the swim platform using his feet to keep the board perpendicular to the boat. He’s doing this to keep her board from turning on her so she can feel the force of the water push against her board which will eventually help her stand up. However the above, with Nick sitting on the swim platform and Cashy directly off the back is very unique to the style of boat. This technique should only be done behind boats that have a V or Direct drive. Meaning the prop is under the hull of the boat not directly off the back. Boats with an inboard/outboard or stern drive (which is directly off the back of the boat) you should not be this close as the prop can suck you in and seriously injure you. For those types of boats, we recommend having someone in the water with you that can help you pop up or start off a dock. With summer right around the corner hopefully this gives you some inspiration to get out there and try yourself or some tips to help others! If you have any questions, just drop them down in the comments and we can help you with getting your littles up and ripping the water too. #wakeboarding #wakeboard #wakeboarder #parenting #parentinglife #parentingdoneright
The stoke, positivity and willingness to try are all things we’re so proud of little Cashy for having. She was hesitant on that jump line but after a practice lap where I (Nick) hit all the jumps to gauge the speed needed, I knew she had it. See on lots of jump lines especially in the spring, Cashy just doesn’t weigh enough to gain the speed needed to clear the knuckles. Even if she straight pins it. So I’ll check them out and I can usually tell from the speed I needed if she can hit them. And hit them she did with Hype Mom in her corner pumping her up! #snowboarding #lakelouise #canada
The energy in this will give you the biggest smile today. From her stoke for doing to Hype Mom in the background cheering her on. It’s all so beautiful. #wakesurfing #Summer #parentingdoneright
