I’m convinced these are sold this way to get you to buy another once this one dies. I am a firm believer to buy plants where ever you can access them but if you’re looking for carnivorous plants ESPECIALLY Venus fly traps and you’re a beginner with them, save yourself the heartache and buy them from local nurseries or reputable carnivorous sellers online. Here some that I recommend: @Carnivero@predatoryplants@California Carnivores VFT are one of the coolest carnivorous plants and they are awesome to own but they do need more specialized care and you won’t find that care in thee boxes. #venusflytrap #venusflytrapcare
Ok, a lot could go wrong BUT Up next: Mini pond setup! I changed water everyday and it stayed on my north facing window sill initially to grow the seeds. If any of the seeds are completely closed, you can scratch the surface area of them to open them up. Find a vessel and watch them grow. I have all items listed on my Amazon storefront under “lotus seed growing”. We do a lot of planty experiments and plant tips here. Consider following along for updates and leave any questions down below! #lotusseed #growingseeds #aquaticplants #planttips
Replying to @Barbara In the last video I shared my failed attempt at growing lotus seeds… so this is my redemption story… hopefully 🤞🏽 Now comes the harder part: Growing them larger. Another great way to grow Peace Lillie’s is in Leca or just water too! LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate) is a semi hydroponic way of growing plants. Step 1: Remove all soil! This process is the longest part. Step 2: Rinse Leca to remove clay particles (AVOID rinsing in sink). Step 3: Trim roots if needed (you can trim up to a 3rd of the roots on a plant without major issues) and remove and soft or dying roots. Step 4: Fill net pot or cache with Leca, plant, and fill the rest with Leca to the top. Step 5: Water it in and keep 1/3 filled with water and your liquid fertilizer of choice and place in cover pot. As the plant adapts, it will show active signs of success but will sometimes show stress too. Keep an eye on the plant during this transition and remove dying leaves as you see them. Have you grown in Leca before? Consider following along for more planty tips if you haven’t already, and leave any questions down below! #leca #semihydroponics #plantcare
If you had left me bare, you might have learned my name. Not just “cute” or “trendy,” And not just part of your game. Now here I sit, in disguise, my truth beneath what caught your eyes. And if one day the paint should peel, I think you’ll say I’m less than real. I only wanted quiet. Some sun. A little care. But they gave me a costume and left me sitting there. Sincerely yours, Sad cactus #cactuslovers❤️
Are you a carnivorous plant fan? A mix of peat, sand, perlite, orchid bark, and chopped Sphagnum works well for substrate. No regular potting soil for carnivorous plants. Keep the substrate evenly moist and well draining. Consistent care will be how you continue to develop the pitchers but if you struggle with gaining new ones, it may be due to lack of light or needing an increase in humidity. Even indoors they will attract and capture an occasional fly or other insect but if you feel they have not received any food, you can drop in a few dead crickets, flies, or a few pellets of osmocote fertilizer every few months. Any additional questions, leave them down below! #nepenthes #carnivorousplant #pitcherplant
When creating your own mix… Depending on your environment, your mix may contain more potting soil if you live in a drier environment or less if your environment is more humid or rainy. Cactus are the first genus of plants that I fell in love with and I hope you find the joy in them too. 🌵 #cactusrepotting #cactusplant
African violets need more love around here AND they’re PET FRIENDLY for any of you with curious fur babies. African violet Rose Bouquet & African Violet Aca’s Libbie from dewviolets on IG. Self watering pots purchased on @etsy from seller: poethandesigns Grow tips: 💡I keep mine under a grow light for 12 hours a day. 💧Self watering pots are helpful to keep damp. I fill the water reservoir when it’s dry and that also helps to avoid wetting the leaves. They don’t like wet leaves on their fuzz. 🌸If you’re not getting blooms, or your leaves are becoming dull in color, it may not be receiving enough light and you can also consider incorporating an African violet fertilizer as well. 🍂 chunky soil mix consisted of equal parts indoor potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite. #africanviolets #planttips
I had a whole other experiment in mind for my orchid spike that I grew but instead of cuttings a small hole like I planned, I cut the whole spike instead. Much like my life through the years after loss, this served as a reminder to myself that although the plans in my life didn’t go as envisioned, through the hard and the worst moments, there is still beauty to be found in the unexpected. Items used: -Silica gel found @Michaels Stores (left orchid blooms drying for two weeks). - Resin UV kit (please use a mask and gloves when working with resin) and applied a thin layer, cured with light until dry. - Attached hair comb and pin to blooms with resin and cured with UV light. #plantproject #orchidbouquet
Fun fact: Ferns are the oldest plant groups on earth and were around when the dinosaurs were here 🦖 Some more beginner friendly ferns: Ruffle fern, birds nest fern, blue star fern Some additional tips: If your climate is VERY dry, they’d benefit from a humidifier but the ones I showed today, are in just my homes ambient humidity. 🪴Unless you want to be watering VERY often, I’d avoid using a terracotta pot because it’ll dry out much faster. I tend to stick to plastic ones or self watering pots to keep it damp. ✨Light: a grow light (I keep mine on from 8am-8pm) is great to keep consistency with light but they are ones that can tolerate being a few inches from a bright window. 🍂I do use my chunky soil mix 💃 with mine but will incorporate extra potting soil so it retains more moisture. #fernplant #plantcaretips
